Principal Engineer – Geo-Environmental Services

Job Purpose:
The Principal Engineer plays a key technical and managerial role within the Geo-Environmental Services team. This role involves the general management of the individual project team. This involved overseeing complex site investigations, providing technical leadership, and managing project teams. The Principal Engineer ensures technical excellence, supports business development, and mentors junior staff, contributing to the firm’s overall success.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Quality Control:
- Oversee the design, execution, and reporting of site investigations and environmental assessments.
- Ensure high standards in the preparation and review of technical documents, including risk assessments and remediation strategies.
- Serve as the technical lead on mid- to large-scale projects.
Project & Team Management:
- Lead project teams and coordinate multidisciplinary input to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Provide direct supervision and mentoring to Project Engineers and Graduate Engineers.
- Support the Associate in managing project resources and maintaining delivery schedules.
Client Engagement:
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients on project-related matters.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and contribute to project scoping and fee estimations.
- Attend and present at client and stakeholder meetings.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Promote a safety-first culture within the team.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with HSE regulations and company policies.
- Review risk assessments and method statements for field activities.
Professional Development & Mentoring:
- Provide training and support to less experienced staff.
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing initiatives.
- Stay updated with industry developments, regulations, and technical innovations.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field.
- Ideally 6+ years’ experience in geo-environmental consultancy.
- Chartered status or working toward chartership preferred.
- Driver’s License required.
