Associate – Geo-Environmental Services

Job Purpose:
The Associate position within the Geo-Environmental Services team is an exciting opportunity for individuals to further develop their technical, project management, and client-facing skills within a dynamic and growing department. The role will support the delivery of a range of geo-environmental projects, including contaminated land assessments, site investigations, geotechnical analysis, and environmental risk assessments. The Associate will work alongside other senior staff members to ensure the successful delivery of projects while also contributing to the team’s development and the firm’s business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Support & Delivery:
- Provide technical support across multiple geo-environmental projects, assisting with site investigations, data analysis, and report writing.
- Conduct environmental and geotechnical assessments, including the preparation of preliminary risk assessments and interpretive reports.
- Collaborate with senior staff to ensure project tasks are completed within agreed deadlines and to the required quality standards.
- Technical Expertise & Analysis:
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, proposals, and documentation related to site investigations, remediation strategies, and environmental risk assessments.
- Undertake data analysis and interpretation of environmental and geotechnical data to support project objectives.
- Stay up to date with technical developments and industry trends, sharing knowledge and supporting team members.
- Client Interaction & Relationship Building:
- Support senior staff in managing client relationships, providing clear and timely communication on project progress, key findings, and deliverables.
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, and presentations, offering technical expertise and assisting with queries.
- Contribute to the development of positive client relationships, with a view to maintaining existing business and identifying new opportunities.
- Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with the company’s health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of risk assessments and method statements for site-based activities.
- Contribute to the monitoring of site health and safety practices, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of technical professionals, promoting a culture of collaboration, development, and high performance.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to junior staff, ensuring effective delegation of tasks, development opportunities, and performance management.
- Participate in continuous professional development, attending training courses, workshops, and technical presentations to enhance skills and qualifications.
- Administrative & Financial Support:
- Assist in the preparation of project budgets, ensuring that time and resources are managed effectively.
- Provide support to senior staff in tracking project progress, budgets, and timescales, ensuring projects remain on track.
- Help with the preparation of project invoices, ensuring timely submission in line with project agreements.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A degree in Environmental Science, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Some experience in a geo-environmental consultancy environment, with exposure to contaminated land, site investigations, remediation strategies, or similar areas.
- Familiarity with relevant UK environmental and planning regulations.
- Practical experience with data analysis and technical report writing is beneficial.

- Health & Safety Awareness: Understanding of health, safety, and environmental standards and regulations relevant to geo-environmental work.
