Mason Evans is a geo-environmental consultancy providing high quality, practical and technically robust solutions to a varied client base, regularly including developers, house builders, distillers, local authorities, contractors, consulting engineers, architects and other professionals across the UK.
We have access to an extensive archive of site conditions throughout Scotland, gained from in excess of 20 years experience of site assessment.
We operate from offices in Glasgow, providing a range of services relating to the investigation, remediation and validation of proposed development sites. With a staff of in excess of 40 we are large enough to provide flexibility in our response, while still retaining the “hands-on” involvement of Senior Personnel in the day to day running of our projects, expected of a smaller, specialist Consultant.
Our team of experienced consultants provide a solution focused service to our Clients, often enhancing the feasibility of sites where this is rendered marginal by adverse ground conditions.
Since February 2022 Mason Evans has become part of the Construction Testing Solutions (CTS) group offering a wide range of complementary services to the industry.
Construction Testing Solutions (CTS) is pleased to announce the acquisition of Mason Evans, one of the leading specialist geo-environmental consultancies in Scotland.

Niall is an engineering geologist with thirty years of experience in the management, supervision and reporting of a wide variety of geotechnical and environmental projects throughout the UK.
He has extensive knowledge of the investigation and remediation of Greenfield and Brownfield sites for a wide variety of end uses; particularly housing, renewable energy and distillery development. Niall is well known in the Scottish Development Sector and has a reputation for providing professional, commercially aware, client focused service.
Niall was a founding Director of Mason Evans and was appointed Managing Director in 2015. Previously he was employed for seven years with Johnson Poole & Bloomer, before leaving with other senior colleagues to form Mason Evans.
BSc (Hons) MSc CGeol MIMMM FGS
Patrick first met his fellow Directors in 1991 when he joined Johnson Poole & Bloomer for short-term work experience while still at University. He impressed his peers at that time, but left to pursue post-graduate studies at Durham, before becoming a consulting engineer. His career took him to Hong Kong where he worked for a major contractor in several large road, rail, and housing development projects, before returning to the UK for a reunion with his former colleagues at Mason Evans Partnership in 1999. Since joining the Firm, Patrick has been involved in a considerable number of site investigation projects, land reclamation and mine stabilisation schemes.
BSc (Hons) FGS
A graduate of Glasgow University with an Honours degree in Geology and Applied Geology, he joined the practise shortly after its inception in 1995, having previously worked in both geo-environmental consultancy and site investigation contracting. A geo-environmental specialist, he is particularly experienced in land quality assessments and the remediation of contaminated land.
BA (Hons) AIEMA MSEE
Ian is originally from Ottawa in Canada and following graduation with a first-class honours degree in Physical Geography, he followed his roots and moved to Scotland in 1998 to pursue doctoral studies in sub-glacial hydrology at the University of Glasgow. His early career was spent with several large engineering firms, developing their contaminated land capabilities and building environmental teams that focused mainly on contaminated land risk assessment and groundwater issues associated with brownfield redevelopment.
This often involved working on large scale remediation projects internationally, as well as domestically. Ian joined Mason Evans in early 2010, and currently heads up the environmental section of the firm.
Pamela Hamilton started her career with Mason Evans in 1996 as a Junior Secretary, working closely with Maureen MacKay, our then Financial Director. Throughout this time, Pamela gained knowledge and experience in the administration department along with more advanced accounting and HR duties.
In 2005, Pamela was promoted to the role of Office Manager. During this time, she developed her working relationships with all staff and management, and now, after 21 years with Mason Evans, has recently been promoted to Finance & Administration Manager.

Following the successful development and establishment of the business, he left eleven years later to set up Mason Evans Partnership with senior management colleagues from JPB.
In the course of his career, he has been involved in over 10,000 development projects across the country and he is routinely consulted as an expert witness. Outside of work, his interests are invariably in sport, including football, golf, sailing, and hillwalking.
